Vector

The vector tool can be used for making a copy of an existing volume, that will have a displacement (DX,DY,DZ) referenced to the initial location of the volume.

If the Copy option is activated, CivilFEM will copy and displace an existing volume by a (DX,DY,DZ) displacement from the original volume, but also maintaining the original volume. However, if the option is not active, CivilFEM will only displace the volume by a (DX,DY,DZ) displacement, deleting the original volume.

The Independent option is only available if the Copy box is active. If this option is deactivated, volumes will be linked together and the original volume won't be available for removal. If it is activated, the volume will not be linked allowing removal of the original volume.

(DX,DY,DZ) will correspond to the volume displacement, referenced to the initial location.

Point to Point

Point to point tool allows the user to displace a volume, using a translation vector to move the volume.

If the Copy option is activated, CivilFEM will execute the action without deleting the selected volume. If it is not, CivilFEM will delete the volume as soon as the program finishes the command.

The Independent option is only available if the Copy box is active. If this option is deactivated, the volumes will be linked together and the original volume won't be available for removal. If it is activated, the volume will not be linked allowing removal of the original volume.

Point 1 and Point 2 are the first and the second points of the translation vector.

The process begins by picking a volume (volume) and entering the other two points (Point 1 and Point 2) inside the properties bar. This two points define a vector (the translation vector) that will indicate the direction. The volume is going to be translated (volume) using the translation vector direction. The distance from the translated volume will be equal to the distance between the two points that form the translation vector (Point 2 and Point 3).

Multiple Copy

Multiple copy tool is available for making either a copy or a multiple copy of an existing volume, in a direction defined by a vector.

In Vector 1 properties, a previously existing vector (curve by two points) is selected, obtaining a direction.

The Step 1 option establishes the distance between surfaces.

Number 1 option fixes the number of copies.

If Independent option is deactivated, volumes will be linked together and the original volume won't be available for removal. If it is activated, volumes will not be linked allowing removal of the original volume.

Rotate button

2. Rotate button
Rotate the geometric entity

Rotate

The Rotate tool executes a rotary displacement, taking an existing axis as a reference. The user must specify the angle the volume will rotate around the axis.

If the Copy option is activated, CivilFEM will execute the action without deleting the selected volume. If it is not, CivilFEM will delete the volume as soon as the program finishes the command.

The Axis option asks for an existing axis. The Axis can be chosen between both lines and axis entities.

User must specify the Angle the volume is going to be rotated.

Multiple copy

The Multiple copy option executes a volume rotation around a defined axis.

The Axis option asks for an existing axis. The Axis can be chosen between both lines and axis entities.

User must specify the Angle that the volume is going to be rotated.

Rotations option determines the number of volumes that will be created. All those volumes will have the same distance between them.

Scale button

3. Scale button
Scale the geometric entity

The scale of an entity is based on size changing proportional to a scale factor. In addition, in the scaling process a point is selected as a "reference point" (so called central point in the properties bar)

Proportional

If the Copy option is activated, CivilFEM will execute the action without deleting the selected volume. If it is not, CivilFEM will delete the volume as soon as the program finishes the command.

The Central point is the point that CivilFEM takes as a reference in order to execute the scale operation.

The Factor number is the scale factor that will be applied to change the volume size.

  • In the example, 3 was the Factor chosen to scale the volume.

As it is shown, the central point works as a homothetic center. A volume is defined by several points so the factor is applied to all points in order to obtain the scaled vertices. The new volume will pass through these new points.

The geometry entity defines the volume that will be used.

Non proportional

If the Copy option is activated, CivilFEM will execute the action without deleting the selected volume. If it is not, CivilFEM will delete the volume as soon as the program finishes the command.

The Factor number is the scale factor that will be applied to the volume. The "non proportional" option allows the inclusion of a different factor for each axis. X, Y and Z factors will be applied to the coordinates of every vertex.

  • In the example, Factors for the different axis were: 3 in X, 5 in Y, 4 in Z.

The geometry entity defines the volume that will be scaled.

Point

The Point tool allows the user to create a copy of a selected volume, taking another point as a reference. That is, the process is based on the symmetry of a volume referenced to a point.

If the Copy option is activated, CivilFEM will execute the action without deleting the selected volume. If it is not, CivilFEM will delete the volume as soon as the program finishes the command.

In the Point option, the point that is going to be taken as a symmetry reference point can be selected.

Axis

The Axis tool allows the user to create a copy of a selected volume, taking an existing axis as a reference. That is, the process is based on the symmetry of point 1 referenced to an axis.

If the Copy option is activated, CivilFEM will execute the action without deleting the selected volume. If it is not, CivilFEM will delete the volume as soon as the program finishes the command.

The Axis option asks for an existing axis. The Axis can be chosen between both lines and axis entities.

Plane

The Plane tool allows the user to create a copy of a selected volume, taking a defined volume as a reference. That is, the process is based on the symmetry of the volume in reference to the plane.

If the Copy option is activated, CivilFEM will execute the action without deleting the selected volume. If it is not, CivilFEM will delete the volume as soon as the program finishes the command.

The Plane option asks for an existing volume.

Explode button

5. Explode button
Explode the selected geometry in order to make all sub-geometry as independent entities

Explode tool can be applied to a curve if the user wants to obtain vertexes, the curves that shapes the surface (curve option), the perimeter polyline (wire option), etc

This option would not be available in case of selecting more than one geometry entity.
